Mini VRV II-S introduced by Daikin Europe
(03/06/2004)
Daikin Europe NV has introduced a 'mini' heat pump version of its R-410A VRV II air conditioning system, which will be on the market this summer. The new system, designated VRV II -S, operates on single phase electrical supply and comes in 4,5 and 6hp (11.2, 14.0 and 15.5kW) capacities.
Intended as an adjunct to the company's VRV II system, VRV II-S is designed for installation in 4 – 9 room applications and is therefore, ideal for the residential, condominium and light commercial sectors. A feature of particular importance for residential applications is the 'night set' mode, which can be set on site to function over a 9 hour period during which operating sound is reduced progressively in three increments of 3dBA.
VRV II-S incorporates the technically advanced features of the larger VRV II. The use of DC reluctance inverter controlled scroll compressors for example, which generate COPs from 2.77 to 3.15 (cooling) and 3.27 to 3.47 (heating). The DC motor maintains high efficiency levels in the most frequently used 'mid' to 'low' settings, thereby reducing electricity consumption and costs. Powerful neodymium magnets (7 times more powerful than ferrite types) within the motor, increase torque and produce much higher power output to electrical input than can be generated by conventional motors. Optimising the sine wave curve of the motor also results in smoother rotation and enhanced motor efficiency.
Installation is improved by the completely new casing design of the outdoor unit with a footprint of just 320mm deep by 900mm wide, which reduces installation space requirements by over 40% (14.0kW model) and enables it to fit easily onto balconies and narrow ledges. Maximum piping length is 120m, total piping length is 300m and maximum vertical differential between outdoor and indoor units is 50m. The Daikin 'Super Wiring' system allows shared use of the wiring between indoor and outdoor units and the centralised remote control, the non polarity of the system obviating incorrect connection and reducing installation time.
Outdoor unit fan efficiency is also maximised by the incorporation of a
DC fan motor, which results in improvements in fan efficiency of over 40%, particularly at lower speeds. Also, the new aerodynamically designed aero spiral fan with backward curved blades, controls air eddies and drastically reduces operating sound. The smooth 'bell mouth' air inlet is fitted with guide vanes at the intake to reduce air turbulence around the fan blades. A new SC heat exchanger expands the sub cooled capacity area and reduces sound generated by refrigerant flow within the casing by promoting the formation of a liquid seal in front of the expansion valve.
Operating range of the new system is from 46°C to –5°C in cooling mode and 18°C to –20°C in heating mode.
VRV II-S is supported by a full range of indoor units comprising 2 and 4 way blow ceiling cassettes, ceiling mounted corner, built in ducted, ceiling suspended, wall mounted, floor standing and concealed floor standing models. A new slimline 200mm deep ceiling mounted duct type FXDQ indoor unit in 6 capacities from 2.2 to 7.1kW has been added to the range, which now features 12 different models in 72 different variants.
